A properly functioning headsail furling system depends on one essential factor: a straight, evenly tensioned forestay. New Stainless Steel can stretch over time ( if your rigging is over 5 years old, it’s probably done its stretch and won’t move anymore ), making previously marked turnbuckles inaccurate

Even small amounts of lateral curvature (“wow”) in the wire will create friction and possible binding inside the foil making furling hard

Let’s be honest, most sailors really don’t give rigging a second thought, which is fine until you see the signs that somethings are off

  1. Roller Furling is suddenly binding on the wire. (No, its’s not halyard wrap, we don’t have misguided engineering here)
  2. You see loose stays on the leeward side in higher than 15 knot winds.(Most common in rail burying show offs)
  3. Your mast looks like it leans to port or starboard

To ensure a smooth installation and optimal furling performance on your 3DFurler or any furler , always check your STAY tension before installation with a tension gauge

We recommend using a LOOS gauge for this purpose
